Counties served: Amador, Calaveras, Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Monterey, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus, Tulare, Tuolumne

The grantees of the Fresno/Central State Regional Office of The California Endowment are not only located in the agricultural areas of the Central Valley, but along the Central Coast and along the Sierra Nevada of Inyo and other mountain counties.

The staff of The California Endowment works to address the needs of the areas' diverse populations and distinct health issues that include high rates of asthma and diabetes to farm worker health to building the capacity of rural hospitals and supporting the development of health programs within community-based organizations.

Central Valley Health Policy Institute: The California Endowment teamed with California State University, Fresno, to create a policy institute that will “facilitate an interactive regional process to identify, monitor and analyze emerging health policy issues that influence the health status of people living in Central California.”

The Health and Related Economic Benefits of Attaining Healthful Air in the San Joaquin Valley: A new study released earlier this year puts a $3 billion price tag on the impact of air pollution on the health of San Joaquin Valley residents. Conducted by a team of nationally recognized economists and a leading air-quality expert, the study is the first such analysis of the region's air quality.

Agricultural Worker Health: The Endowment is committed to improving the health of California's agricultural workers who are directly responsible for producing such an abundance of healthy food in the state, but yet find themselves at serious risk for life-threatening chronic diseases caused by poor nutrition and little or no access to health care or services, while often living and working in unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
