Binational Health Week (BHW) kicked off with an opening day luncheon and policy strategy sessions attended by leading policymakers, including California state Sen. Gil Cedillo. BHW is an annual effort with a mission to offer health promotion and education programs to migrants and immigrants from Mexico and Central America..

Students attending the Los Angeles Unified School District’s 6th Annual Nutrition Advisory Council Symposium on Sept. 25 prepared their favorite after-school snack. The councils are student-led groups that do peer nutrition education.

On Dec. 6, the Center for Healthy Communities hosted political communicator and consultant Frank Luntz for a Center Scene Public Program called The Language of Health Reform. Dr. Luntz ran the program as a public focus group and interactive discussion about the best ways to communicate messages about health care..

Children hula-hooped at the second annual Healthy Neighborhood Festival, which took place at The Endowment’s downtown Los Angeles headquarters on Oct. 13. The festival’s theme was “Groove to Your Health” and showed the connection between dance and fitness.
