Juan Felipe Herrera is a poet, performer, writer, cartoonist, teacher and activist. He was California’s 2012 Poet Laureate, and yesterday, he gave his inaugural reading as the first Chicano-American U.S. Poet Laureate. In addition to publishing more than a dozen collections of poetry, Juan has written short stories, young adult novels and children’s literature. As a son of migrant farm workers he also prides himself as a performance artist and activist on behalf of migrant, indigenous communities and at-risk youth.
