Boyle Heights Beat – What happens next: DACA questions answered
Boyle Heights Beat readers were surveyed about what questions they have about their rights under DACA following the announcement Tuesday that President Trump plans to end the program on March 5, 2018.
Our youth reporters are researching the questions and reaching out to professionals to find answers. We will attempt to answer all questions or send our readers to appropriate agencies.
Q: I just renewed my DACA for two years. Will I be protected for two years?
A: Current DACA recipients will be permitted to retain the period of deferred action and employment authorization documents (EAD) until they expire. If your DACA expires on or before March 5,2018, you can file a renewal by OCTOBER 5, 2017 and get two more years. Those whose DACA expires after March 5, 2018 will not be eligible for renewal. No new initial applications will be processed.
