Boricua Lin-Manuel Miranda is a modern day renaissance man most famously known for writing the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical In the Heights. For that work, Lin-Manuel won the The GRAMMYs for Best Musical Theater Album and the Tony Award for Best Original Score. He is currently performing in the Broadway musical Hamilton the Musical as the titular character, Alexander Hamilton. Earlier this year, Lin-Manuel was tapped to write songs for the upcoming Disney feature Moana. Just days ago, he was selected as one of the MacArthur Genius Grant winners! From acting and singing on Broadway to performing at the White House, Lin-Manuel brings the sound and the story of the barrio to the national stage.
“Listen to anything and everything critically. That doesn’t mean criticize what you like and what you don’t like. It means, if a piece of music moves you, start to break it down.”
This year, we are honoring the heroes and hundreds of individuals that have fought the injustices faced by our communities. Over the next month we will recognize their journeys and the ways in which they have made TODAY possible. #HispanicHeritageMonth #MiHeritage
