The California Endowment’s PRI Report

Over a decade ago, The Endowment considered what more we could do beyond grantmaking to accelerate and deepen our impact for the communities we serve. We chose to begin using some of our investment assets to deliver more than financial returns but to also generate social returns, too. This approach is known as “Impact Investing.”

Our Impact Investing journey has required deep listening, reflection, recalibration, and iteration — and remains an ongoing process. We are excited to share our learnings in our new report, Building Trust & Equity: What The California Endowment Has Learned from Over a Decade of Impact Investing. We hope it inspires others to embrace impact investing tools and mobilize more capital into communities that need it most.

Our commitment to advancing health and racial equity in California is an organizational-wide commitment that includes our Impact Investing. Our partners have told us that our support of their racial equity journeys has helped deepen their organizational capacities towards building a world of more inclusive capital. We will continue to be unwavering in our commitment to advancing racial equity as a key social determinant of health.
