California Funders Speak Up to Protect the Census and Communities.

The Constitution is clear: Count everyone in the U.S.

The Census helps us have better schools, more affordable housing, and healthcare services for people who need it most.

Yet, a proposal by the Administration is threatening sweeping changes about who counts in America for political gain. This proposal would exclude millions of people based on their immigration status and would prohibit collection of important data on race, ethnicity and sexual orientation.

The result? Everyone will lose out. Communities won’t get an accurate count and the resources they need.

Attempts like this have been made in the past, and we’ve won before. So, we are raising our voices once again.

The California Endowment called on funders to speak out against changes that would exclude people based on citizenship or immigration status and oppose removing data collection on race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation from the Census. Now, 39 funders have signed on to oppose the Census proposal.
